The Scottish Educational Research Association Conference 2006

“Connecting Communities of Learning”

Royal George Hotel , Perth

Thursday 23 November – Saturday 25 November 2006

The SERA conference provides a forum for the educational research community in Scotland. Educators and educational researchers from outside Scotland are also warmly invited to participate. Papers are welcomed from newly emerging researchers as well as more established figures.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Connecting Communities of Learning”. Within that overall theme papers and symposia are invited covering, but not restricted to, the following areas of research:

Papers: presenters will have 15 to 20 minutes in which to deliver their paper, followed by 10 minutes of discussion. A papers session will be chaired, normally by a member of the SERA executive committee.

Symposium: this format allows fuller discussion of a series of linked papers, selected to demonstrate a range of perspectives or variety of methods. A symposium will normally have 3 contributors. Anyone proposing to offer a symposium should provide a chairperson, to introduce the session and highlight relationships amongst the contributions, and a discussant to offer a critique of the symposium as a whole. One hour and a half is the normal duration. It is a planned event and the contact person must act as a link between the conference organisers and other contributors.
