SERA Connects: In conversation with Walter Humes
Date and time: Thursday 23rd July, 4.00pm-5.00pm
Presenter: A seminar hosted by Prof. Walter Humes (University of Stirling)
Who is this online seminar for: This seminar will be of interest to teachers, researchers and other key stakeholders interested in teacher education, policy studies, curriculum reform, educational leadership and history of education.
Walter Humes has been a Professor of Education at the universities of Aberdeen, Strathclyde and West of Scotland, and is now an Honorary Professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Stirling University. His publications include work on teacher education, policy studies, curriculum reform, educational leadership and history of education. Much of his writing offers a critical perspective on official policies, based on a close reading of documents using a form of discourse analysis. At the SERA event on July 23 he will describe his recent research and will be happy to answer questions about his ‘outsider’ approach to methodology, his co-editorship of ‘Scottish Education’ (5th edition, 2018), and the challenges involved in ‘going against the grain’ of orthodox thinking.
